Along the road that leads to our restaurant you will find a small oasis where flora and fauna reign supreme: the Portonovo lakes.
The water of the two lakes, Lago Profondo and Lago Grande, which are located a short distance from the sea, is brackish water, the result of the mixture of sea water with fresh water.
A local legend tells that the Portonovo lakes are connected to the sea by underground channels, thus giving rise to eddies that would suck up anyone who swims near them.
This myth has allowed the lakes to flourish thus constituting a habitat of considerable naturalistic interest.
